LOVENESTS

LoveNests will showcase the lives of a colorful collective of Atlanta locals through design. The exhibition is a collaborative effort between Portfolio Center photography and Georgia Tech industrial design students. Through interviews, storytelling, and photography, the curators will delve into the personalities and histories of popular Atlantans and discover what objects define, inspire, and capture the essence of their individuality. Once this process is complete, the photographers and designers will work together to translate and engineer each person’s symbolic spirit, so to speak, into a three-dimensional representation. Structural, abstract, graphic and diverse, each Atlantan is tangibly personified at MODA through designed environments. LoveNests serves as an engaging, illustrative biography of our Atlanta favorites.

Better watch out, Better not cry, Better getchyafanny out!, I’m telling you why . . . Fisher Meehan is coming to town

If you’ve ever heard me tell about Fisher’s music, you’ve likely heard me say, “he elevates” when describing his performance. ‘Tis true. And he prefers to play barefooted.

Fisher came to Atlanta about two years ago but then left us for snowy areas. He’s coming down for a visit and I’ve designed a little concert for the event.

Come out to L5P on the 27th. You’ll find a Star Bar full of fun-loving people and exceptional music. You already know how we feel about Ocha la Rocha, and I asked one of my favorite Atlanta bands, Molotov Pipedream, to play too.

Forewarning: due to the cold, Fisher may have to wear socks.

Be warm with us this holiday season!

concert / saturday 27th / star bar / 9pm

Missy Gossip and the Secret Keepers

My favorite new band MISSY GOSSIP AND THE SECRET KEEPERS ( WEBSITE )! I’ve known of Lauren Paige Staley for awhile, I knew she was the type of person to subtlety be friends with musicians and rock stars, and I also new she was the type of person that commanded attention in the most graceful way. She’s the girl in the room that doesn’t have to tell you that she’s supposed to be the center of attention its just that the universe turns towards her on its own.

So no surprise that she has a band, the surprise is the voice. A voice filled with yearning and excitement at the same time. I hear that on stage she and the band are amazing! Check them out tonight at 1 five 0 ( WEBSITE ).

Appalachian Diamonds

Pecan Pie Couture’s Spring 2009 season of shirts LEGENDARY has a new video out on you-tube. We were inspired by southern folklore and legends for this line of shirts.
To set the mood we asked our friends Martina Williams AKA Martina Diamante ( WEBSITE ) and Erich Luedkte of the Lasch (no longer playing after “the Lasch Show Ever” and but currently forming a new band), to rework a traditional Appalachian folk tune we found on the library of congress website.

Martina scored and played the violin.

Erich was in charge of recording and styling the score.

We are so happy to have such great friends as these, enjoy the video and go to Pecan Pie Couture ( WEBSITE) to find out where you can pick up these shirts in Spring 2009.

Whats This?!!

This is Teddy Thompson ( WEBSITE ) Many people first found this London born artist on the Soundtrack of Brokeback Mountain singing duets with Rufus Wainwright ( WEBSITE ), but ladies he is all yours if not a bit more groomed from the experience. Like Rufus, Teddy’s Parents were folk singers and his warm mellow sounding voice is a throw back to that folksy heritage.

However don’t let the voice fool you, there are some deviant lines in his new CD A Piece of What You Need. Such as the line in the song What’s This?!! “I smile away as she’s moving her stuff in, My eyes all doe and I’m calling her muffin.”

See Teddy open for Tift Merritt at Variety Playhouse on Sept 6th ( WEBSITE )

I Wanna go Dancin!

“I Wanna go Dancin!” I have found that I say this quite often, and what I mean by this is I want to go to MJQ ( WEBSITE ) or where ever DJ Brian Paris is spinning. This particular evening I was on the phone with Ansleyonce ( Ansley Whipple )(her nick name because of her undying love for Beyonce) when I said it. And to my surprise she was up for it. So we got together around 11:00 and went to MJQ. Well… instead of the usual $5 cover it was $15 because it was Sloppy Seconds ( ARTICLE ), which I’m sure is a fun party, but a little too pretentious for me an Ans on a “I Wanna go Dancing” night. By the way, spending $400 and countless hours looking for the perfect limited edition Nike hightop to go with your limited edition zip up hoodie makes you just as pretentious as the woman you sneer at who buys Manolos to go with her cocktail dress.

Anywho… luckily Jordan, the lead singer of Snowden ( WEBSITE ), was hanging outside MJQ in front of the Bodega Nights Kissatlanta Ice Cream Truck ( ARTICLE ).

Me and Ans told him that they should sell tacos or hotdogs instead of ice cream but Jordan said they didn’t have the permit (secretly in my head I thought this would make a great Snowden song ‘I wanna give you my hotdog but I don’t have the permit’)….

So Jordan had made a batch of sangria, which he was going to take to the drive-in, but nobody responded to his Myspace post. And he invited us to The Mayor of Ponce’s ( MYSPACE ) ( ARTICLES ) house for a birthday party.

So we drove Jordan’s Sangria over to the Mayor’s house. Jordan’s Sangria taste’s super yummy, it reminded me of when you were a kid and ate Kool-Aid powder straight from the bag.

We left the Mayor’s party shortly after arriving to go hang out with the Summer Scouts ( members include the blogger for Pecanne Log ) at their headquarters and sing Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson at the top of our lungs for no apparent reason.

I didn’t get to dance, but we had a blast anyway.

Siren Song

screen-capture2.jpg
I have found a siren. Yes its kind of sappy that I love a contemporary Christian song toned down lyrically to the point that its just “spiritual”… but there is something about those key changes that uplifts the soul and makes the heart feel warm and cozy. Her name is Brooke Fraser. And I promise you’ll like it, you just can’t help yourself. Its like a cup of yummy coffee in flickering candle light, or bright and crisp like a slice of OK Café Key Lime Pie ( WEBSITE ). The other thing I like about Brooke is that she looks like she shops at the Indie Craft Experience ICE ( WEBSITE ) and her bio on her mighty pretty website BROOKEFRASER.COM says she wants to learn to knit.  Also i think she has a thing for piercings, you can tell that she has a tongue piercing and half the people in her current video are peirced.

Brooke is coming play at the 5 Spot ( WEBSITE ) on August 12th. See you there, I’m expecting a crowd of hipster Christians from 722 ( WEBSITE )… Here is the youtube video for her single Shadowfeet….

Dealing with Identity Theft

So my friend Donna called up her bank and they told her she was dead. She got it worked out, but it reminded me of a song by one of my favorite singers Nellie McKay ( WEBSITE ) called Identity Theft .

Any who…. I was looking up Nellie on the nifty internet to see what she had been up to, and found out she had done a segment for TED conference 2008 ( TED WEBSITE ). Here is a great little dity about feminism called Mother of Pearl. We love TED and Nellie, but… Nobody Can Be Donna But Donna!
